Unusual Things to do in Perth

Perth’s attractions are renowned the world over, from the city’s neon-lit CBD to the beautiful beaches that line the western coast of Australia. Nevertheless, for the more intrepid traveller who is prepared to scratch beneath the surface, there are many rewards to be found here.  In this spirit, the list below celebrates some of the less-heralded attractions in Western Australia’s capital city.

Perth Mint

Aside from being a fantastic excuse to visit East Perth – one of the city’s most impressive areas – Perth Mint is a great attraction in its own right.  Perth Mint’s star attraction is undoubtedly the gold pouring demonstration; however, the tour guides also do a magnificent job of building up a narrative around the history of this iconic building.   If you want to know about the history of gold in Western Australia, there is no better place to go than Perth Mint.

Bibbulmun Track

If you are visiting Perth on a budget and want to get a feel of the outdoors, head to Bibbulmun Track.  This track takes in nearly 100km of wilderness and forests, making it a fantastic way to experience the natural beauty of the area.  For particularly enthusiastic backpackers, there is even an 8-week hiking experience, which leads travellers through valleys, over boulders, and along some of the most breathtaking walkways Australia can offer.

London Court

London Court provides the surreal feeling of being transported to days gone by, without leaving Perth city centre. This arcade of boutiques and cafes was built in 1937 and designed in the style of an Elizabethan-era shopping area, providing it with a charm that is only exaggerated by its proximity to the nearby skyscrapers.  London Court is well worth a visit during any stay in Perth.

Should you make any purchases in London Court – or anywhere else in Perth- with a travel card, you are entitled to membership rewards points which can be used for a variety of benefits.  You can spend money on a velocity card and earn points towards your next flight to Perth.
